The Road to Recognition
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Today we feel like we took more than a step. Rather, it was a giant leap into recognition...
There are only six Taigans in the United States...well, officially four as our two are not actually in the US. However, we were able to get our dogs registered with ARBA, the American Rare Breed Association.
There are only six Taigans in the United States...well, officially four as our two are not actually in the US. However, we were able to get our dogs registered with ARBA, the American Rare Breed Association.
But there are others forging the way for Taigans in Europe. In fact, August 1st and 2nd, the Taigans are coming to Donaueschingen where there will be a special program where Taigans will be introduced in this special European Sighthound Competition. Both pups are entered and we will have more to come on that topic...
According to the AKC, here is the process to get our Taigans recognized!
1. Start a Taigan Club!
2. Submit an authoritative breed history that documents its existence for many decades and a written breed standard and photographs of several dogs and puppies of the breed.
3. Approach the AKC Foundation Stock Service to help keep track of our pure breed Taigans.
4. Get 100 pedigreed dogs into US households in at least twenty states! This is a good place for the ARBA to help us get our Taigans out there!
5. Finally, the club must hold match shows, local and national breed specialty shows, judges’ workshops, and breed seminars. Hopefully once the number are up—300-400 Taigans in the US—this should take one to three years. And the Sighthound Festival in Germany will help too!
Whew! That's a lot, but we are on the road and there's no turning back!
